Among turkey circles, he was known as the terror of Mt. Tam. Tabs was infamous as a killer of…careers among turkey models, because he had no patience for imperfection when it came to working with other models, whether feline, human, avian or otherwise.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he worked on many modeling campaigns with turkeys.

His affinity for turkeys was multifaceted. He loved everything about them and found them both fascinating and delicious.

Rosie

Rosie, on the other hand, hasn’t worked with any turkeys yet, but she does find them to be interesting. Today on her walk, she followed a gang of them around the hill. She pretended to not notice them but nonchalantly got progressively closer and closer until they were 10 feet away. She tried to play it cool, but when one of the larger turkeys stood up tall and flapped its wings, probably as a signal to Rosie to “step off,” Rosie flipped out and ran all the way back to the front door.

She’s not quite there yet in terms of having a full on conversation with them.

Maybe soon, though.

As for Marnie…she hasn’t figured out what to think about turkeys yet. She knows they’re large, they’re loud, and they are most probably not dogs.

Beyond that, though? Not quite sure. 🙂

Makeup and Beauty Blog Monday Poll, Vol. 843

So…what is the Monday Poll?

Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007).

1. Something you need to buy for yourself that isn’t beauty related?

Shoes. I’ve been waking up with sore and cranky arches, so it’s time! I can’t believe there was a time in my life when I could wear whatever footwear and get up in the morning with happy feet. It’s wild to me!

2. Colors in your wardrobe that you wear the most?

I wear a ton of blue, gray and black. Honestly, I’m not crazy about that particular palette; it’s just that I bought a bunch of basics in those colors a while back, and sticking to just a few different colors makes it easier to get dressed in the morning. I have some pink, red and yellow items up in the mix, too, which I enjoy wearing.

3. Pick a sport you’d like to be amazing at: speed walking, high jump, wrestling or diving?

For practicality’s sake, I guess wrestling? At least that way if I ever found myself in a hand-to-hand grappling situation, I’d have a chance at getting out of it.

4. Where are you from?

California, baby! Specifically the East Bay, although I haven’t lived there in a really long time. I guess I could say I’m from Marin county since I’ve lived here for almost 20 years, but I don’t feel like I’m “from” here. I’ve always felt like a transplant.

5. Current mood?

A little sleepy but otherwise good. I really want to have a smooth, positive week, as it’s Connor’s last full week of summer before school starts again. It went by in a flash!

Camping by the River and Thoughts on Staying in the Moment

We went camping last weekend by the Russian River, and Marnie tagged along with us, which added a different spin to our usual routine. I’ve never gone camping with a dog, so it was a first!

For this trip, I tried something new; I spent less time taking pics on my phone and more time trying to be present. I only took a handful of shots, including the one at the top.

Have you ever tried this? It’s been years since I’ve attempted to not grab at least a good amount of photos during a trip on my phone, and it was kinda weird for me.

I’m not sure how I feel about it! On one hand, it was really nice to not feel the need to constantly document everything. I really tried harder to burn images in my mind and capture the feelings at the moment—the sweetness of seeing Marnie walk right up to the edge of the river and getting right into the water without any hesitation, or how my heart swelled when Connor and Marnie looked so peaceful curled up together sleeping in the tent.

But on the other hand, I kinda wish I took at least a snap or two of those moments, so that years from now, I could get one of those reminders on my phone that shows me that I was by the water with my people on this specific day.

I legit wonder if I’m gonna remember it, ya know? I used to have a stellar memory; for years, and up until recently, I could remember even seemingly small things, like all my locker combinations during middle and high school, LOL! And now I can barely remember what I did last Monday, eek.

Oh, on a somewhat unrelated note, if you *do* take a dog camping, one thing I learned this time around is to save a little extra energy to give the dog a bath when you get home because they get absolutely filthy! My goodness.

Anywho, are you the type of person who just takes a few pictures on a trip and is fine with that, or do you feel the need to document every moment?

P.S. Happy Wednesday. I hope this week has been treating you well!
